Want to learn more about the sightseeing trip? Here, have a look:
The Cristo-Rei statue, located in Almada, at the southern bank of the Tejo Estuary, was inspired by the Cristo Redentor statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was inaugurated in 1959 and many believe its construction was part of a promise made by the portuguese episcopate to avoid Portugal’s involvement in World War II. Apart from the religious aspect, this place is also visited everyday by hundreds of people due to its exceptional views of Lisbon- it stands at almost 361 feet above the Tejo. Experience Lisbon from a different point of view!
Wine Cellar - José Maria da Fonseca
The next stop on the tour is in Azeitão, on the southern bank of Lisbon. Here we have the House-Museum of José Maria da Fonseca, a famous brand of portuguese wine. You’ll visit the house where the brand was first developed in 1834 and get a glimpse of the family’s values that passed from generation to generation and that make this a family business with the same values as before.
Aside from that you’ll be presented with an unparalleled wine and food tasting, all the while getting to know the history and the essence of this ancient wine, including the famous Moscatel, which is made from muscat grapes. This experience will be a unique feast for your eyes and palate.
Quinta da Bacalhôa Palace and Cellar
Here’s another option regarding the wine making and tasting. Also in Azeitão we have Quinta da Bacalhõa Palace and Cellar. You can visit both and discover a privileged and prolific landscape that has produced some of the most tasteful wines of the region: red, white and moscatel.. Take a stroll through the gardens, the vineyards and walk up to the house on the lake, where you can find the first dated tile in Portugal.
